Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player won his initial title for over two years with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court since March of the previous year.

The win also means Medvedev has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my children together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his past six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the final five points to go ahead.

The pair traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.

Moutet rescued 4 initial break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
