Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was found guilty of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he continued under house arrest pending court reviews.

High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.

This included trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a invitation to a demonstration that could "allow for a possible escape.

Court Filing Details Escape Concerns

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the magistrate said information from the centre monitoring the former president's confinement suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be assisted by the confusion caused by the demonstration called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio, who works as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his followers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on last Friday: "Are you going to fight for your homeland, or see it all from your smartphone there on your settee? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the demonstration would be so followers could "pray for his health and for the return of democracy in our country."

Bolsonaro was found guilty of heading a conspiracy aimed at retaining his authority after he failed to win the national vote to his left-wing rival, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Top judicial officials said that he was aware of a scheme which involved plans to assassinate the current president and his VP candidate, Alckmin, and to arrest and execute Justice Moraes - the High Court judge who has been managing Bolsonaro's trial.

The conspiracy was thwarted because it couldn't obtain the backing of the army and air force commanders. His successor was inaugurated without incident on January 1st, 2023.

But a following week, on January 8th, numerous his backers stormed and vandalised official structures in the national capital, Brazil's capital.
